Description
At the heart of this design stands a black teddy bear whose presence is both soft and unshakeably powerful. The most defining element is the broken chain on his wrist — snapped open, yet still hanging on. It represents the reality of being bearly free in America: the chain is broken, but the weight of history remains attached. Freedom exists, but the remnants of oppression still cling to the wrist.
The bear’s black fur symbolizes Black culture, resilience, and identity. The Kente cloth echo heritage, unity, and Black identity today.
His black gloves, black jacket, and black hat mirror the striking visual language of a ironic Super Bowl performance — a modern artistic protest — while also nodding to the iconic imagery of the Black Panther movement, who made it known that others are not built like us.
Placing the bear on a football field ties the message to a defining moment in modern protest: the courageous act of players taking a knee to call out police injustice. It’s a reminder that the fight for equality didn’t end with the breaking of chains — it continues on the field, in the streets, and in the culture
